Pictochat is a mode included in every Nintendo DS. In it, people can send messages and or pictures to each other. PictoChat is a communication utility included with the Nintendo DS. Up to sixteen people can paint chat with each other using it, connected wirelessly through a system-to-system wireless connection. It allows for simple input of keyboard text and written text/drawings. On October 22, 2007, PictoChat was announced as a stage for Super Smash Bros. Brawl on Wii.

It received an Excellence Prize for Entertainment at the 2004 Japan Media Arts Festival. In the Wii game, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, there is a stage based on it.

Much like Pictochat, the DSi can send pictures to another DSi owner .

In the Nintendo DSi, there is a rainbow color option, where you can draw with a color-producing mark.

There are some games based on Pictochat, including the infamous "Ping Pals"

A variation of the application was included in the game "Kanji Sonomama Rakubiki Jiten", which was only released in Japan.

Pictochat was not included in the 3DS.
