The Game Boy Advance was Nintendo's 5th generation portable handheld, and the last of the Game Boy line (excluding redesigns of the console). It had two successors including the Game Boy Advance SP and the Game Boy Micro, which were basically the same console with a different design. The Nintendo DS took its place as Nintendo's primary handheld in 2004, and as of 2008 it has managed to surpass the total amount of sales of the GBA.
